Highway Services

The Highways workshops are based on 'valuing people' and have evolved into the Supplier Satisfaction KPI, which we launched at the 2006 Supply Chain Conference. We held a workshop with just suppliers where the key elements of making May Gurney the customer of choice were discussed.

We asked all suppliers that attended the conference to narrow the number of questions in each of the five key areas down to three by visiting the Constructing Excellence website, where a selection site was hosted on our behalf.

Toby Pyper of Tarmac and Canute Simpson of Constructing Excellence presented the process we went through at the 2005 Supply Chain Conference.

Infrastructure Services

The Infrastructure workshops are based on 'effective leadership' and have evolved into reviewing and developing the existing 360-degree feedback process to ensure that results are communicated effectively - with the focus on the planning stage of a project. We are using the A11 project with selected partners to review the existing process, evaluate its effectiveness and develop it going forward.

Rail Services

With Rail we are focusing on 'developing the supplier's role'. This has further evolved into how we develop longer term frameworks with the Supply Chain, to pass on the benefits of long-term contracts while simultaneously meeting challenging targets for year on year cost/budget reductions. We are currently developing this further within the Structural Steel Bridges product group and have a series of meetings/workshops scheduled with Phil Bennett of Network Rail to keep the momentum going forward.
