Pipeline Rehabilitation Services

Knowledge and expertise

May Gurney has extensive framework partnership knowledge and expertise in the delivery of specialist pipeline rehabilitation operations to upgrade and improve underground gravity and pressure pipelines - such as water mains, sewers, culverts, pipelines and gas networks, covering diameters ranging from 75mm diameter mains up and above 42" trunk mains.

The company is a leader in pipeline renovation and has pioneered trenchless technology to minimise inconvenience to its client's customers, reduce traffic disruption, offer a faster service then conventional open trenching - and still achieve year on year savings.

Design and planning

The team is renowned for its specialist pipeline renovation design and planning capability, which ensures that clients are given value engineering options that offer cost effective trenchless solutions while meeting their investment goals.

May Gurney has developed a refined methodology that ensures that all possible engineering options are considered. All stakeholders to the project are consulted, including third parties such as the EA, and highways and customer care are a priority.

Innovation

As well as traditional trenchless technology techniques (slip-lining, pipe-bursting, directional drilling, and others), May Gurney has a reputation for innovation. Examples include:

  • Fast cure PU spray lining for the refurbishment of water mains, trunk mains and aqueducts. May Gurney changed from epoxy resin spray lining in 2001 to the fast cure lining system, as this offers its client's customers improved levels of service due to the potential for a faster return to service following rehabilitation.
  • CIPP and Patch Repair Sewer Lining systems that can offer the structural repair of sewers, culverts and underground conduits without the need for excavation. These systems have been further developed to address the need to minimise infiltration into the sewer networks and support the need to reduce flooding.
  • Use of air inversion equipment for the installation of sewer lining systems, which help to minimises the site working footprint and reduce traffic disruption in difficult congested urban areas or picturesque rural villages.
  • Piloting and introduction of Hybuild spray lining systems to enhance the structural integrity of pressure pipelines - including Asbestos Cement and Ductile Iron for the refurbishment of water mains, gas mains and sewerage pumping mains. This offers a cheaper all-in cost solution to sliplining and pipebursting.
  • Use of hydraulic pipe-bursting systems for the replacement of small bore sewer networks including Pitch Fibre networks
  • Large diameter main techniques enabling long lengths of pipe rehabilitation in one installation, minimising local highway and customer impact.
  • Use of pipeline renovation systems for both small bore urban networks and large diameter strategic pipelines.

The company continues to invest in the latest trenchless technologies, and to develop methodology to get the best value engineering solutions for clients.

May Gurney's objective is to meet engineering requirements while driving down costs and achieving year on year savings.
