Gabions

Gabions are essentially rectangular steel wire mesh cages filled with crushed rock and can be an inexpensive method of retaining small slope heights whilst providing an aesthetically pleasing finish. Where exposed the front face of rock is normally placed by hand to improve its appearance. Baskets are normally seated such that the wall is angled slightly off vertical and are connected with simple pins. Whilst normally freestanding gabions can be nailed or anchored to provide additional restraint.
