To accommodate larger aircraft, May Gurney constructed a tail dock structure, mounted on rails, to the front of the existing hangar.

This slides across from each side and covers the whole of the tail section to form an integral part of the temperature and environmentally controlled building.

The sophisticated air and ventilation system was designed to accommodate two changes of air per hour.
