Recycling - why is it essential that we all recycle as much as we can?

UK households produce approximately 30.5 million tonnes of waste each year, of which 5.9 tonnes is packaging and 6.7 million tonnes is household food waste.

Up to 60% of the rubbish that ends up in the dustbin could be recycled. Rubbish dumped in landfill sites is a waste of natural resources and energy and can be a source of pollution.
Recycling helps conserve resources and save energy. It also helps protect the environment and reduces the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill. As a nation we are making year on year improvements.
