We have been working in partnership with Walsall Council since 2006 and our current contract expires in 2014. Under the contract we manage two household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) and awaste transfer station.
What can you recycle?
Garden waste, wood, plastic bottles, paper, cardboard, drinks cartons, glass, tin cans, household and car batteries, engine oil, cooking oil, TVs, small and large electrical appliances, plasterboard, energy saving light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, textiles, books, DVDs, ceramics, hardcore, soil, and many more items.
Our service
The transfer station manages around 70,000 tonnes per annum of material including household residual waste, and co-mingled kerbside recycling. The two recycling centres accept around 22,000 tonnes per annum, with a recycling rate of 60% in 2011. We have doubled the recycling rate that was achieved by the previous operator.
Through a range of innovative measures to prevent commercial waste from entering the sites we have reduced throughput by 5,000 tonnes per annum. This represents a saving to the council of more than £400,000 per annum.
The split-level design of the two HWRCs we operate enables them to remain open during servicing. This minimises queuing and congestion and ensures that customer satisfaction levels remain high.
Our site staff are trained recycling advisors tasked with meeting and greeting the public, and providing customers with information and assistance to help them correctly sort their waste into the appropriate container. This ensures low levels of contamination and diverts waste away from disposal in landfill.
This ‘advisory’ approach is underpinned by a customer service culture designed to give the public a more positive impression when they visit our recycling centres.
We operate a van and trailer booking system at the HWRCs. Anybody wishing to use the sites with a van or trailer must book at least 24 hours in advance, this can be done by phoning 01922 409802. Please note that the booking line operates 9:00 – 17:00 Mon – Fri excluding Bank Holidays.
Soil improver can be purchased on site for £2 per bag; this material has been made using recycled green waste collected within the Borough.
