Project helps revitalise a local community
May Gurney’s specialist street lighting business, Cartledge, has successfully completed an exciting and challenging project for the London Borough of Bexley to help revitalise a local community.
The brief was to develop a lighting solution to enhance Waterside Gardens in Crayford, to create a welcoming open space and improve residents’ feelings of safety after dark.
The solution, developed by Cartledge in partnership with It Does Ltd, is maintenance friendly and uses the minimal amount of energy, while at the same time creating maximum impact.
A number of structures within the park have been dramatically lit, including the entrance, a central pavilion, a bridge and seating areas.
Chris Anderson, general manager at Cartledge, says: “The new lighting aids navigation around the park, provides interest, and adds depth, colour and movement. It has created a ‘wow’ factor, transforming the park after nightfall into a visually different and interesting space.”
The project has received warm praise from the local community with one long-standing local resident saying: “I particularly like the fact that at night the park lights up and comes alive in a completely different way, rather than just being a dark hole – wonderful.”
