Double short listing for May Gurney in Arts & Business Awards
May Gurney is in line for two arts and culture awards for its work with the Norfolk & Norwich Festival.
The Norfolk-based national infrastructure services company has been named as a finalist in two categories of the East Arts & Business Awards.
The company’s sponsorship of a series of large-scale free events at the 2009 Festival, helping to bring the arts to the attention of a younger audience, has resulted in its first short listing for the Ernst & Young A&B Young People Award.
The award recognises partnerships that have harnessed the power of the arts to engage young people, demonstrating a dynamic connection with youth through the arts, and a significant involvement of young people as audience or participants.
May Gurney is also a finalist in the A&B Cultural Branding Award, given to a partnership that reinforces the branding and marketing activity of a business through the use of culture. The winning organisation will demonstrate an integral connection with culture that has increased brand equity and therefore business performance.
Jonathan Holloway, Norfolk & Norwich Festival artistic director, said: “The vision and commitment of companies like May Gurney to invest their time, energy and cash in the Festival is remarkable. Through their support, we have been able to create an extraordinary programme of events designed with young people in mind. Great art shouldn’t just be for people who can afford it; it should be for everyone.”
The winners will be announced in a ceremony at Marshall Business Aviation’s state of the art facility in Cambridge on 11 February.
