Rotating filter bucket
Malcolm Hoskins and Acland Plant
These two companies invested in an innovative rotating filter bucket to enable on site processing of excavated material into pipeline bedding - thus avoiding removal of excavated material, and delivery of bedding material.
The new bucket was first used on the Dunchideock to Hennock mainlay pipeline project for our customer South West Water. The cost of removing surplus material from the pipeline, and bringing in suitable pipe bedding, was prohibitive.
We worked in partnership with Malcolm Hoskins and Acland Plant to research solutions, and when we came across the new rotating filter bucket, our two supply partners invested in it.
As a result, more than 95% of the excavated material was used as backfill – saving 144,000kg of CO2 through reduced transportation and production.
