Probably most commonly associated with retaining walls, ground anchors are also widely used to provide additional support to a variety of retention structures including bored pile walls, new and existing reinforced concrete walls, masonry and quay walls.
We provide a complete design and construct service and can install various diameters and lengths of self drilling hollow stem grouted bars which are installed using a drill head and mast mounted either on a standard 16t 360º excavator or a small drilling rig.
The installation process is almost identical to that for a soil nail, however, the free length of bar is fitted with a plastic sheath to debond it from the grouted annulus. The simplicity and versatility of the system and the plant means that installation can be very quick and reactive to changes in scope, access and sequencing.
After installation of the anchor a period of time to allow for the curing for the grout should elapse prior to the bar being stressed and locked off, normally at 110% of the design load. Stressing & testing of the anchors are carried out as a combined but separate operation to the installation process. Under temporary conditions the anchor heads may be left exposed but for permanent works corrosion protection is normally afforded in the form of galvafroid paint or a bespoke anchor head plate cover.
