While your academic achievements are important, your energy, vision and ability to make things happen are even more important.

We provide an individually tailored two-year ‘Starting Out’ plan to run parallel with 'on the job' training – to help you develop the skills you need to progress your career, achieve your ambition and realise your potential. 

You will also receive full support from your personal mentor and regular visits from our Starting Out officer to ensure that your transition into May Gurney is smooth.

One of the great things about May Gurney is the variety of experience we can provide. Our business includes highways and rail maintenance, looking after canals and rivers, maintaining utility company infrastructure (gas & water), building and maintaining schools and colleges, and providing waste and recycling services.

Although you will be initially based in one business sector, the graduate plan will give you the chance to experience various aspects of our business and gain rounded experience. We are looking for people that are flexible and willing to work in different business sectors in order to gain maximum experience. 

During your first two years you will complete an individually tailored development plan concentrating on areas identified at the beginning of the programme. By the end of the two year plan you will have a range of experiences and will have completed a programme of training that will help you progress at May Gurney and in the wider support services industry.

After the initial two-year Starting Out plan we will design a further development and training programme to enable you to continue to progress within May Gurney. This will include the opportunity to join our corporate leadership and development programmes and opportunities for further and higher levels of study.
