The directors

Margaret Ford - Non-executive director 
Margaret Ford, the Baroness Ford of Cunninghame, was appointed to the Board as a non-executive director in May 2011. Margaret has significant experience of the support services sector, having recently retired from Serco plc as senior independent director. Margaret was appointed a Working Peer in 2006 and has extensive public company and public sector experience. Margaret is also chairman of the Olympic Park Legacy Company and is a non-executive director of Grainger Trust plc. Margaret is a member of May Gurney’s nomination and remuneration committees and was appointed to chair the company in July 2011.

Philip Fellowes-Prynne - Chief Executive 
Philip was appointed as a director of May Gurney in April 2008 and as Chief Executive in July 2008. Philip has a wealth of experience in the infrastructure and waste support services sectors and prior to joining May Gurney he was chief executive of Accord plc. As well as overall responsibility for the operational and commercial performance and strategic development of the Company, Philip also has Board responsibility for human resources, health and safety and information systems.

Matt Stevens - Group Finance Director 
Matt, a chartered accountant, joined May Gurney and was appointed to the Board in December 2009. Previously he was divisional finance and commercial director of Serco Defence, Science & Technology, Serco’s largest division, and prior to that worked in a number of senior finance roles within Serco’s Transport and Education divisions. Matt began his career at Arthur Andersen. Matt has overall responsibility for the management of corporate finance.

Tim Ross - Senior Non-executive Director 
Tim, a solicitor and past director of George Wimpey plc, was appointed to the Board in 2002 and was non-executive Chairman of May Gurney from January 2005 to July 2008. Tim is also non-executive chairman of Hargreaves Services plc and Superglass Holdings plc, and a non-executive director of Lavendon Group plc and a number of private companies. He is Chairman of the Council of Clifton College and a member of the Governing Council of the University of Bristol. Tim is Chairman of May Gurney’s nominations and remuneration committees and a member of the audit committee.

Andrew Walker - Non-executive Director 
Andrew was appointed as a director of May Gurney in January 2009. He is an engineer with wide public company experience and was formerly Chief Executive of South Wales Electricity plc and McKechnie plc. Andrew is non-executive chairman of Brintons Limited and holds non-executive directorships at API Group plc, Manganese Bronze Holdings plc, Plastics Capital plc and Porvair plc. Andrew is a member of May Gurney’s audit, nominations and remuneration committees.

Ishbel Macpherson - Non-executive Director 
Ishbel was appointed to the Board as a non-executive director in April 2010. She was an investment banker for over 20 years, specialising in UK mid-market corporate finance and her most recent role was Head of UK Emerging Companies Corporate Finance at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. Ishbel is a non-executive director of Hydrogen Group plc, Speedy Hire plc, Dignity plc and GAME Group plc. Ishbel is a member of May Gurney’s audit, nominations and remuneration committees and it is proposed that Ishbel will be appointed to chair the audit committee following David Galloway’s retirement from the Board in July 2010.

Simon Howell - Company Secretary 
Simon was appointed Company Secretary of May Gurney in January 2009. Prior to joining May Gurney, Simon was Company Secretary of UBC Media Group plc. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries.

Executive management team

Mike Baldwin - Managing Director, Group Services 
Mike joined May Gurney in December 2007 as commercial director of Highway Services. He has a wealth of commercial experience in the infrastructure industry having previously worked as commercial manager for Laing O’Rourke and commercial director at John Crowley Ltd – London, part of the Dutch Volker Wessels Group. He was promoted into his current role in September 2010 and is responsible for all commercial aspects of the business including procurement and estimating.

Greg Michael - Group Business Development Director 
Greg is responsible for leading the Group’s business development strategy – specifically, achieving growth through new clients, new services and new markets. This includes interpreting market and competitor trends, identifying new opportunities and ensuring that the Group’s business development, marketing and corporate development capabilities support May Gurney’s aspirations for 2016. Prior to joining May Gurney in January 2012, Greg was Transformation Director at Nottinghamshire County Council where he held full responsibility for the procurement £308m operating cost budget, reporting to the CEO.

Michael Thompson - Managing Director, Regulated Services 
Michael is a chartered surveyor with an impressive track record in infrastructure and support services, built up over 28 years. His career includes spells with John Laing and Kier, followed by 18 years with Interserve (formerly Tilbury Construction) – most recently as Commercial Director in its facilities management business. Michael joined May Gurney in April 2008.

John Wilkinson - Managing Director, Public Sector Services 
John has more than 22 years' experience in delivering multi disciplinary infrastructure related projects. He joined May Gurney in 2006 to manage the £42m High Level Bridge project in Newcastle upon Tyne (which won 11 major industry awards). John has responsibility for his sector's financial performance and maintaining and improving our excellent record for framework delivery, customer satisfaction and safety. He is responsible for growing the sector to ensure we meet our five-year business plan and key objective of 'Being the Best'. John is focused on assisting our clients to drive innovation, value and differentiation within the public sector, ensuring that our clients (and their client, the general public) enjoy exemplary related services.

Adviser to the chief executive

Gerry Duffy - Group SHEA Director 
Gerry has more than 20 years’ experience in managing health, safety and environment systems. Prior to joining May Gurney he was safety and assurance director for Serco Civil Government, and before that he was HSE director for Accord plc. Gerry has overall responsibility for May Gurney’s SHEA department and the company’s strategy for safety, health, environment and assurance.
