He then spent 16 years in asset management, construction and outsourcing, before joining Laing O'Rourke, where he completed a three-year stint working in construction and utilities, and developing the company's European strategy.
Speaking about his role with May Gurney, he said: "The 'be the best' culture here at May Gurney is a very strong asset and I'm looking forward to using it to help further develop our utilities business.
"My brief is to retain and expand our business with key customers in the water sector and further strengthen our gas business - and in particular our coalition with National Grid.
"Beyond that, I'm looking forward to playing my part in ensuring that we implement the best of what we do right across our business, and transfer knowledge and best practice between all our framework managers and offices across the country."
Gavin is based at May Gurney's offices in Manchester. He said: "Manchester is a great base for me given the substantial growth of Utility Services in the north west. We now have five offices in the area, including the three recent acquisitions.
"Manchester also has great transport links including the second largest airport in the UK, which provides daily flights to both Exeter and Norwich. A service with which I will no doubt become very familiar, as I plan to spend a lot of time in Exeter and the south west region."
