Big step forward on customer relationships

May Gurney has appointed three new Customer Relationship Directors (CRDs) to further improve focus on meeting, understanding and adapting to customers' needs.

These CRDs will have responsibility for building relationships with key customers and further improving May Gurney's long-term business prospects.

They will become the strategic point of contact for the customers they are assigned to, and will work with key stakeholders to fully understand their needs and their agendas. They will also raise awareness of what May Gurney has to offer as an integrated support and construction services company, and identify solutions to meet their customer's needs.

Glen Mace will transfer from his current role of General Manager for West Sussex Highways to become CRD for Local Government Services in Sussex. In his new role, Glen will draw on his experience of strategic partnership working and understanding of May Gurney's integrated support and construction services.

Glen joined May Gurney in 2002 as a Construction Manager for Rail Services. He was promoted to Senior Project Manager in 2003, before transferring to Highway Services in 2005 to join West Sussex Highways.

He said: "I am looking forward to assisting East and West Sussex County Councils and their neighbouring authorities to identify opportunities where they can work together to achieve their targets - by utilising all of the skills and experience May Gurney has to offer."

Garry Goodby joined May Gurney on 12 November as CRD for South West Water.

Garry brings more than 30 years' change management, business integration and strategic business planning experience from household name retailers, Asda and Co-op. His former positions include: Programme Director for a multi million major business change programme; IT Director, covering strategy, development, customer management and service; and Head Of Contract Management, managing contracts from strategy through to delivery.

Garry says the company's 'challenging and exciting growth plan' is one of the main reasons he's joined May Gurney. He was also attracted by its reputation for delivery and quality, and 'becoming part of a successful team and company'.

Speaking of his new role, Garry said: "Developing strategic, long term relationships with our customers is key to our success - and ensuring that our supply chain, our processes and our people meet and exceed our customers' expectations is a must."

Finally, Ian Cousins will take up the position of CRD for Local Government Services in Essex in mid December. Ian's experience includes strategic partnering, development of integrated support services, and leading and implementing national service delivery solutions for major companies including Carillion, BP and Shell UK.
