Gas sponsorship confirms 'growing presence'

May Gurney was one of the main sponsors of the GAS 2006 seminar, which took place at the DTI Conference Suite in London on 5 October.

The Director General for Energy, Willy Rickett, delivered the keynote address at the seminar, which is organised each autumn by IGEM (Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers) and SBGI.

IGEM is the leading independent professional body for gas engineers and managers in the UK and international gas industry. It is one of the world's foremost authorities for gas related commercial and technical matters, and develops and promotes industry expertise worldwide.

The conference was well attended by a cross section of the gas energy community including all the local distribution network and transmission asset owners. Issues discussed included the need for continued maintenance and replacement of gas asset infrastructure, and the safe and sustainable supply of gas for the UK.

"We never anticipated that sponsoring the event would directly land us any orders for work, but it was a milestone event and opportunity to show that May Gurney has matured as a service company in the sector," said Tim Read, Utility Services' Managing Director. "It also confirmed the growing confidence we have gained from working for the two largest gas network companies, National Grid and Scotia Gas, and that we feel we can contribute to industry debates now and in the future."
