EA relationship strengthened

May Gurney is one of six contractors selected to help the Environment Agency (EA) achieve long-term environmental improvements in the Thames Region.

The projects to be undertaken will include smaller civil engineering and building works in watercourse, riverbank and vegetation management; design and build of watercourse assets; minor construction work and maintenance; and mechanical & electrical installation and maintenance.

Tim Read, Utility Services' Managing Director, commented: "It's good to diversify what we do for the EA.

"We hope to be actively involved at an early stage in the inception of packages. We will also look to help scope the works to get the best possible solutions for the available budget - something we are familiar with from our work in the water sector."

Any works undertaken will seek to achieve EA goals, which include: a better quality of life and enhanced environment for wildlife; improved and protected inland and coastal waters; the restoration and protection of arable land; and reducing the risk of flooding.
