Scotia Gas framework fires up

May Gurney has had its first two packages of work confirmed under a long-term framework with the UK's second largest gas utility company, Scotia Gas Networks.

Earlier this year, May Gurney achieved Scotia Gas approved framework status - which allows the company to bid for projects under the umbrella framework now in place.

"Our quality and safety record for the work we are carrying out in Manchester for National Grid - we have had a zero AFR for more than 18 months - was paramount in Scotia Gas's decision to use May Gurney," explains Tim Read, Managing Director for May Gurney Utility Services.

The work comprises the renewal of 15km of existing gas mains, and installation of new mains, in Edinburgh and Dunfermline. Both 'open cut' and 'no-dig' techniques will be deployed to renew and lay pipes ranging from 63mm to 400mm. May Gurney will also carry out all service connections to properties, along with internal 'purge and relights'.

The work will be carried out between September 2006 and April 2007, and is likely to be worth in the region of £1.5m.

There are 14 different projects in Edinburgh - some in the city centre, but the majority to the west of the city around Murrayfield. The Dunfermline package is a single 5km scheme. In Edinburgh, May Gurney will operate from the Scotia compound adjacent to the city by-pass, but will establish another base in Dunfermline.

Tim Read added: "The gas sector is recognising May Gurney as an innovative gas network maintenance and rehabilitation contractor. This potential growth sits well alongside pipeline rehabilitation activities we are currently undertaking for Scottish Water Contracting in the same region."
