Potential for growth in water framework

Following a qualification and bid process that commenced late in 2005, May Gurney Utility Services has secured a four-year framework from its key customer Essex & Suffolk Water (E&SW).

E&SW supplies water to 1.7 million customers in areas around Lowestoft and Southwold in Suffolk, and Chelmsford, Southend, Basildon, Romford and Barking in Essex and on the eastern fringes of London.

May Gurney has been working with E&SW for many years, and in recent months the company has been re-bidding for a long-term AMP 4 framework related to network maintenance (R&M), water metering and developer services.

The successful outcome sees May Gurney retain all water network activities in the Suffolk area - and the company has been offered additional R&M works to in the Essex region.

Tim Read
, Utility Services Managing Director, said: "With such a long association with E&SW, it's good to retain them as a valued customer - and extend our workload in the Essex region.

"With growing concern in the south east about drought and the need to repair pipes quickly, we are focused on supporting E&SW to ensure they meet their regulatory leakage targets.

"In addition, our metering installation services can be grown to help the company balance water demand and anticipated new housing growth throughout the region. This will also offer us additional developer services works in later years."

The anticipated annual value of the works under the framework is about £1.5m in Suffolk and potentially up to £ 2.5m per in Essex. At a possible £4m per annum, the four-year framework could be worth a total of £16m.
