May Gurney was named Best Supplier Partner - which was judged from all South Staffs Water suppliers - and was awarded the 'Gold' Award at the climax of the evening.

Presenting the award, Jenny Marshall, South Staffs Water's Head of Procurement, said: "Our long-term relationship with May Gurney, which covers more than six years, has been judged a successful partnership.

"May Gurney's continued willingness to support South Staffs Water in all its requirements and the company's positive attitude to meeting our needs is commended.

"Their planning team, in particular, must be thanked for early identification of a potentially environmentally sensitive issue relating to the Great Crested Newt. Good planning on what appeared on the surface to be a straightforward job may well have saved an embarrassing environmental incident. Well done to all the team."

Clive Read, May Gurney Utility Services Interim Managing Director, said: "We were delighted to have our local team's hard work recognised.

"It is good to see the partnership culture we strive for being rewarded in this way."

Clive Read

"It has been a challenging time in the last period with additional workload needing to be delivered to meet South Staffs Water's regulatory obligations. As we renewed our focus in 2007 on achieving continuous improvements to the framework, it is good to see the partnership culture we strive for being rewarded in this way."
