Major integrated project for South West Water

South West Water (SWW) has awarded May Gurney the £4.2 million Sennen & Porthcurno sewerage treatment project in Cornwall, as part of the company's extensive investment programme.

The project, one of the largest construction capital schemes to be awarded by SWW outside its main capital works frameworks, demonstrates the added value May Gurney can offer through local integrated service delivery.

"By combining our in-house construction, infrastructure and utility teams with our mechanical & electrical services skills, we are able to offer an integrated service to SWW."

The project, which started in January 2007, involves an array of new wastewater assets including four sewerage pumping stations, a sewerage treatment works, transfer pipelines and a sea outfall. It is programmed for completion by March 2008.

Richard Dean, May Gurney's Chief Operating Officer, commented: "It's a great award, particularly for our local delivery team in Cornwall.

"By combining our in-house construction, infrastructure and utility teams with our mechanical & electrical services skills, we are able to offer an integrated service to SWW.

"This gives them confidence that we can not only be competitive for capital engineering works of this nature - but also have the depth and strength of engineering capability to deliver."

The project is centred along the beautiful coastal area of Sennen, and the work will be undertaken with a keen regard and awareness of the environmental challenges posed by such a sensitive location. It's not simply the coastal fringes that need to be carefully considered at the planning stage - but also the interests of third party stakeholders including the National Trust, through who's land some of the pipelines will pass.
