SHE Day success

For the second year running, the York-based LNE Structures and Civils Team recently ran a Safety, Health and Environment Day for clients, suppliers and staff.

Over 50 people attended the event, during which the Rail Services SHE team reviewed the previous year's performance and launched its 2006 SHE initiatives - which include eye protection, carbon offset, sustainability and environmental training.

Other topics included a presentation by Bruce Appleton of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) on hand arm vibration syndrome and the impact of noise.

Paul Murray, Network Rail's HSQE specialist, talked about 'working with lead'. Attendees also had the chance to visit one of Network Rail's specially adapted safety buses, which act as mobile classrooms and visit rail construction sites across the country.

Other topics included May Gurney's MAD (Making a Difference) behavioral safety programme, and the company's occupational health strategy.

After the event, Len Aaron, Business Manager of Trackwork Railway Engineering Division, said: "Thank you for a fantastic day. I was only too happy to attend and to contribute to your annual Health, Safety, and Environmental Day. You are to be congratulated on your efforts."
