Rail Services shortlisted for three environment awards

The May Gurney Rail Services team has had three entries shortlisted for the 2006 Network Rail Environment Awards.

Russell Adams, Rail Services Managing Director, said: "The LNE Civils and Structures team was thrilled that two projects entered have been shortlisted for a Biodiversity Protection Award. Additionally, our Environmental Manager, Craig O'Brien (pictured), has been shortlisted for the Individual Contribution Award."

The projects entered for the Biodiversity Protection Awards are: Beighton Bridge, for the creation of a riffle bed on the River Rother; and bridge refurbishment works carried out within a Site of Special Scientific Interest at Morton's Leam near Peterborough.

"Our team always strives to ensure projects are delivered without detriment to the environment, and these are typical examples of the attention we give to the locations within which we are required to work," Russell Adams added.

"Before starting any project, and with guidance from our environmental team, we research the area to identify possible impact on the locality and then work with our client to minimise any risk."

The rail team is now hoping for good news at the awards ceremony, which takes place at the Natural History Museum in London on 12 July.
