Viaduct challenge for Network Rail

May Gurney Rail Services is working on a challenging maintenance project on Saltburn Viaduct in the north east of England.

Saltburn Viaduct is a Grade 2 Listed Structure carrying a single line in and out of Boulby Potash Mine. The bridge spans the Cleveland Way and Skelton Beck, and at its highest point the 11-span viaduct is nearly 40m above ground level.

May Gurney is carrying out brickwork repairs and drainage works to four piers and three arch soffits, and the work is scheduled to be complete towards the end of 2007.

The project is being carried out as part of the London North East Territory Structure and Civils Maintenance framework for Network Rail - which is managed from May Gurney's York Office. The five-year framework runs until 2009.
