The winning signal box project, at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, was delivered as part of the East Anglia Property Framework May Gurney holds for Network Rail. It received the Westinghouse Signalling Award at the ceremony in London on 6 December. The work included repainting the signal box in its former LNE/British Rail livery.

Steve Jagger, Managing Director Engineering and Project Services, said: "I congratulate the delivery team on this achievement. Rail Services continuously strives to delight the customer, and on this occasion impressed the National Railway Heritage Award judges too!"

May Gurney employed Colts of Hull as subcontractor, and the project included: various timber repairs; interior and exterior redecoration; re-wiring; new lighting; new flooring; a suspended ceiling; insulation and new heating, and a heat recovery unit.

The signal box was originally built for the Great Eastern Railway and opened in 1888. It has a 53-lever frame and controls the line from Kennett to Thurston.
