Western Territory contract awarded by Network Rail

May Gurney Rail Services has been awarded the Reactive Earthworks Framework Contract for Network Rail's Western Territory.

The area covered by the contract comprises Wales and the Marches, the West Country and Thames Valley. The contract commences with immediate effect.

Russell Adams, Managing Director Rail Services, says: " May Gurney is delighted to be working on this contract with Network Rail. Our experienced workforce is looking forward to delivering against the challenges ahead."

The framework contract is shared with two other companies and runs until November 2007. The contract value to May Gurney is estimated at £2m per annum.

Within the contract, May Gurney is charged with attending sites where there have been earthwork failures, and then undertaking emergency permanent or temporary remediation works.

Other activities within the framework include vegetation management, rock combing, the installation of anchors, pinning, netting, gabion walls and material removal.

The contract will be run from May Gurney's office at Avonmouth, near Bristol.
