Date set for next May Gurney Challenge

The fourth May Gurney Challenge - a series of events to engage students in practical engineering tasks - will take place on 10 October at the Hewett School in Norwich.

The May Gurney Challenge has been established to address a lack of awareness among young people about career opportunities in construction and engineering. It is a fun and informal way to engage young people and raise awareness of the diverse career opportunities that are available.

As part of the Challenge, teams of pupils are given a fictitious brief to come up with solutions to an engineering project. At the end of the day the teams present their solutions to a panel of experts, who mark them on criteria including team working, the design and originality of the model, and marketing and presentation skills.

The May Gurney Challenge was last held at the University of Brighton on 7 February.
