Supporting the community

May Gurney has donated funds to two worthwhile causes in the past few weeks.

The company has given £1,000 to Trowse Primary School, Norwich. The money will be used to pay for a stained glass window, designed by the school's pupils, which will be the centrepiece of the school's refurbished hall.

Brenda Handley-Howorth, Chair of May Gurney's Charities Committee says: "We are pleased to be able to contribute to the hall refurbishment, and impressed that the pupils have designed such a beautiful window."

Head teacher Sandra Baker thanked May Gurney for its generosity. "The memorial stained glass window will bring light, warmth and joy to all who congregate here for many years to come."

Supporting the community

May Gurney has also supported the St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich with a donation of £500.

Supporting the communityThe donation marked the successful completion of a road over rail bridge contract at Wickham Market in Suffolk - and matched the sum raised by locals at the Dog and Duck pub in Campsea Ash.

Russell Adams, May Gurney Rail Services Managing Director, said: "We developed close relationships with local people while the scheme was underway. There was a certain amount of disruption and the donation is our way of saying thank you to the local community for its patience."

St Elizabeth Hospice provides expert medical care for people in East Suffolk with life limiting illnesses, and offers support to their families and friends. Support from the community is vital if the hospice is to raise the £1.7m it requires to operate throughout 2006.
