Hat trick of award wins – including ‘Best Communication’
It’s been another busy and successful month on the awards front – here’s a quick fire round up of the key highlights.
Aim Investment Awards – win
Having been short-listed for two categories in the AIM Investment Awards, which were presented in London on 16 October, we were proud to be named winner of the 'Best Communication' category.
We impressed the judges with our totally integrated approach to communications encompassing the annual report, regulatory statements, the investor section of our website and face-to-face presentations.
The award was presented to Phillip Fellowes-Prynne, CEO, and David Sterry, chairman (see pic above).
South West Water Supplier Awards
We enjoyed success at the South West Water Supplier Awards on 7 October, winning the 'Pure Service' category for a water mains replacement project in the historic Barbican area of Plymouth. At the end of the project both SWW and Plymouth City Council thanked us for the way in which we carried out the work.
The Pure Awards recognise those suppliers that help to achieve South West Water’s vision of delivering Pure Water, Pure Service and a Pure Environment.
We were also short listed in the ‘Pure Environment’ category, for emergency repair works carried out at Tottiford in Devon.
The photograph shows Garry Goodby (left in pic above) receiving the award from Chris Loughlin, chief executive of SWW, who said: “This award reflects May Gurney’s commitment to good customer service – Garry Goodby and his team are focused on delivering consistently good service within our business.”
Gavin Scarr Hall, managing director Utility Services, added: “Our continued improvement in customer service has been recognised. Congratulations to everyone in the team - in particular Mark Burt, project manager, and Andy Rowe, customer liaison officer, who have been instrumental in the delivery of this project.”
Environment Agency Project Exemplar Award
Team Van Oord, a partnership between Van Oord, May Gurney and Mackley Construction, has won the first Project Exemplar Award to be presented by the Environment Agency (EA).
The award is for the health and safety record at the Flexbury Flood Defence Scheme in north Cornwall, which commenced in December 2007. The project team consistently exceeded the accepted average score of 60%, and in April 2008 achieved an outstanding 94%.
Richard Nunn, national commercial and planning manager for EA ncpms, (National Capital Project Management Services) visited site on 10 June and confirmed that Team Van Oord was to receive the award, which was formally presented to Tony Camilleri, Team Van Oord framework director, on 24 July. Tony then travelled to Flexbury to re-present the award to the site team (see pic above).
East of England Construction Training Awards – highly commended
We were 'highly commended' in the 'Business Education Link' category at the East of England Construction Training Awards on 10 October. Congratulations to everyone in the ‘Starting Out’ team.
