Good news for Building Services

May Gurney Building Services has been awarded two pieces of new business in recent weeks.

First, Building Services is one of seven contractors to have won a place on the South East Centre of Excellence (SECE) Tier 2 construction framework in Hampshire.

The four-year appointment, known as the Hampshire Cluster, covers new-build and refurbishment projects to schools and other public buildings valued between £500K and £2.5m.

Local authorities and other public bodies throughout the county are eligible to buy partnered construction services via the framework and SECE anticipates that at least £30 million worth of schemes will be committed during the first year of operation.

This success in winning a place on the framework panel has given the Building Services team an ideal, and sustainable, basis upon which to expand the geographic spread of its construction activities.

Building Services has also been appointed to design and construct a new office building for Morley Agricultural Foundation (MAF), and its tenant, The Arable Group (TAG), on a green field site near Wymondham in Norfolk.

The new building will allow both organisations to relocate from existing premises nearby.

The £800k contract for a traditional, but sustainable, single storey structure, incorporating ground source heating, was negotiated on the basis of a partnership proposal presented to the MAF Board by the Building Services team. The 33-week project, awarded under Option C of the NEC Form of Contract, is due to get underway in spring 2008 following agreement of the Final Target Cost.

Suffolk based consultants Pick Everard will undertake the architectural and services design briefs with May Gurney's in-house team carrying out the structural design.
