Big step for Burgh

The new bypass that May Gurney has built around Burgh le Marsh in Lincolnshire has been described as 'undoubtedly the most significant event in the town's history since the arrival of the railway in 1848'.

The people of Burgh are thrilled with the road, and recently more than 200 of them gathered for a two-mile 'adoption walk'. The road was officially blessed by Father Terry Steele and the ribbon cut by 95-year-old Gladys Waite, thought to be Burgh's oldest resident - who said she was 'proud and privileged' to have been invited.

The bypass was built under the Lincolnshire County Council framework, which is easing congestion and improving safety in a number of towns and villages across the county. The bypass was officially opened on 30 November - four months ahead of schedule.
