Raising the safety bar
May Gurney has celebrated a number of highly impressive safety milestones in the past few weeks.
On 15 November, the Rail Services team celebrated a whole calendar year without a RIDDOR accident - which equates to over 1.7 million man-hours.
Steve Jagger, Managing Director of Engineering and Project Services, said: "This is an incredible achievement. The team's continued commitment to safety is to be applauded."
Director of Rail Services, Chris Heath, added: "I strongly believe that this safety success is due to our continuing use of the MAD (Making a Difference) philosophy."

The MAD programme promotes behavioural change to safety, health, environmental and business performance. It focuses on front line engagement, communication and empowerment to change, for the better, the way that people behave in the workplace and beyond.
Steve Jagger concluded: "We have set a standard - a standard that in our industry, many companies can only aspire to. I congratulate all members of the team, once again, on this major accomplishment."
A month earlier Infrastructure Services set two new records.
First, the company's civil engineering business reached half a million working hours without recording a reportable accident. 'Civils', as it is better known, reached the landmark on 31 September after 17 months RIDDOR free working.
The safety record covers locations across Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Hertfordshire, and projects as diverse as roads, bridges and other structures, over a million cubic metres of earthworks, park & ride facilities, highways improvements and a town centre regeneration project.
The Civils' milestone is part of an equally impressive achievement of an
Accident Frequency Rate of just 0.06 across Infrastructure Services.
"This is a fantastic result and fully justifies the effort every employee has put into working and behaving safely"

John Chick said: "This is a fantastic result and fully justifies the effort every employee has put into working and behaving safely. Our MAD programme has had a real effect on our safety performance but ultimately the credit and our thanks must go to the site teams who have taken up the programme with such enthusiasm."
