By using the existing NSP contract, Great Yarmouth Borough Council has been able to streamline the procurement process

InteGREAT continues

Phase three of the InteGREAT project - which is giving Great Yarmouth's Golden Mile a much-needed facelift and improving links along the seafront with the town centre - has recently got underway.

All three InteGREAT phases have been carried out by the Norfolk Strategic Partnership (NSP) between Norfolk County Council, May Gurney and Mott MacDonald, working in partnership with Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

By using the existing NSP contract, Great Yarmouth Borough Council has been able to streamline the procurement process and save administration time and paperwork. A high level of consultation with local people with regard to the development and management of all phases has helped minimise disruption.

This final phase, valued at £2.5m, will see the revamp extended along the seafront up to the Winter Gardens. The work will comprise the continuation of the slow lane which accommodates cyclists, a road train and a horse drawn landaus, as well as new pavement and street furniture. The improvements will complete the link between the Britannia and Wellington piers and represent another major step in the regeneration of the sea front.

Phase one of the InteGreat project enjoyed success in the 2006 Local Government News Street Design Awards. The project won the Highways category for traffic calming and environmental improvements carried out while constructing a pedestrian link between the seafront and town centre.

In addition, phase two recently won a Bronze Safety Award from the Considerate Contractors Scheme.
