Hot topics at CIWM

With news of our acquisition of ECT Recycling hot off the press, this was a focal point for discussions on our stand at the annual CIWM waste and recycling exhibition in Paignton during June.

The event was supported by May Gurney and ECT Recycling teams and provided a forum for consultation regarding sustainable waste solutions and ideas for optimising service provision.

"The event was an excellent opportunity to promote the benefits of our experience and range of services"

We were very busy with existing local authority partners keen to understand the range of services we are now able to offer as we continue to develop our waste business. Contacts were also made with several potential new customers interested in the innovative long term solutions we can provide to support their waste strategies.

The exhibition also provided our operational and commercial teams with the opportunity to meet and negotiate with existing and new suppliers to ensure we continue to secure competitive rates backed by excellent service.

Three key messages - high levels of customer satisfaction, service performance and local authority relationships - were central in our conversations with customers and suppliers.

Steve Longdon, general manager waste services, said: “The event was an excellent and timely opportunity to promote the benefits of our combined experience and the expanded range of services we can now offer - from management of recycling centres and kerbside collections, to integrated waste management contracts including street cleansing operations.”

We also held a competition asking visitors about the amount and types of waste entering our household recycling centres – as a way of demonstrating that we reuse and recycle an impressive 60% of waste received. The winner will be announced shortly and will receive a cheque for the charity of their choice.
