Strengthening our position in waste recycling

The acquisition of ECT Recycling - an important municipal waste collection and household waste recycling company - has significantly strengthened our position in the waste recycling market.

"We've found a partner with a good reputation for delivering services to local authorities"

Stephen Sears, ECT Recycling

ECT’s long-term local government contracts include one with the Somerset Waste Partnership – which currently achieves the nation's lowest rate of residual waste disposal. Other important contracts include the London Boroughs of Ealing and Barnet, and a 10 year contract with BaNES (Bath and North East Somerset).

ECT Recycling also works in joint ventures (JV) to combine its capability, expertise and resources with local knowledge and experience. These JVs include DAWN, with the Community West Recycling Partnership, which provides doorstep services to more than 68,000 households in Doncaster; Monmouth Community Recycling, a JV with Monmouth Environmental Trust; and Frip Ethique in Senegal, West Africa – a partnership between ECT Recycling and Oxfam to provide an ethical model for marketing second hand clothes.

ECT Recycling’s order book is worth approximately £175m, with contract extensions worth up to an additional £350m.

David Sterry, our CEO, said: “We are delighted to welcome a company whose culture and focus on partnerships is aligned to our own.

“This acquisition significantly enhances our capabilities and customer relationships in the local government waste services market - a market where the challenges for our customers are growing rapidly.”

Stephen Sears, chief executive of ECT Recycling, said: “For some time we’ve been exploring ways to secure the future of the company – we want to build on our successful business formula.
