Integrated working in Suffolk

May Gurney's Infrastructure Services and Rail Services businesses will be working in partnership to deliver a rail bridge project for Suffolk County Council at Wood Ditton near Newmarket.

The work is being carried out under the very successful Suffolk Bridges' Framework, which commenced in May 2002 and has been twice extended to run until April 2008.

The framework covers replacing or renovating existing bridges over rivers and railway lines, and includes an option to build new bridges. To date, May Gurney has worked on 32 bridges under the framework, which includes five for the Environment Agency.

While most of the work under the framework is being carried out by May Gurney Infrastructure Services, Rail Services is involved in this instance because the project is a 'road over rail' bridge.

The work is to upgrade the bridge's parapets to enable it to carry heavier vehicles - the current restriction is 17 tonnes.

The work is scheduled to commence in July 2007 and is likely to run for 12 weeks.
