CIWM - an excellent opportunity

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) annual exhibition and conference proved to be an excellent opportunity to network with current and potential local authority and commercial sector customers.

The event, which was held at Paignton on the English Riviera in mid-June, has been the industry's premier meeting place for more than 100 years. The 2007 event attracted over 6,500 attendees, 350 exhibitors and 650 conference delegates from every waste industry sector.

Steve Longdon, May Gurney's General Manager for Waste Services, described the event as 'an excellent arena for building on current partnerships and developing new ones with waste management companies and suppliers'.

It is the only event of its kind in the UK - combining a comprehensive exhibition covering waste, recycling and resource management and the CIWM's internationally renowned annual conference.

The 2007 exhibition encompassed all aspects of wastes management - from the humble litterbin through to advanced treatment and energy recovery processes such as mechanical biological treatment and anaerobic digestion.

Running alongside the exhibition - and with a theme of 'waste: a global resource' - the four-day conference focused on recycling, sustainability and carbon emissions, and drew delegates from around the world.
