Change of emphasis at CIWM

There was a significant change of emphasis at this year's CIWM exhibition, which was held at Paignton, Devon, 13-16 June 2006.

CIWM, which is organised by the Chartered Institute of Waste Management, is Europe's largest annual event dedicated to waste, recycling and resource management. Each year the event draws over 350 exhibitors and around 6,500 attendees from approximately 30 countries. This year the theme was 'Changing the face of waste management'.

The waste market has been identified as a major growth area for May Gurney - spend in the sector is expected to top £10 billion over the next 10 years. And as a result of an EU directive to divert municipal waste away from landfill, local authorities are increasingly focusing on waste reduction to meet target deadlines in 2010, 2013 and 2020.

This is the fourth consecutive year that May Gurney has exhibited at the CIWM exhibition. On this occasion May Gurney exhibited in partnership with NEWS (Norfolk Environmental Waste Services) to provide local authorities with a complete design, build, finance and operational solution, which was well received by prospective clients.
