Considerate Constructors success
Two projects in which May Gurney was involved - at Fordingbridge in Hampshire and on the A11 in Norfolk - have been recognised by the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

Considerate Constructors is a national scheme created by the construction industry to improve its image.
All registered sites are monitored by an experienced industry professional to assess their performance against an eight point Code of Considerate Practice, which includes the following categories: Considerate, Environment, Cleanliness, Good Neighbour, Respectful, Safe, Responsible and Accountable.
 First, the Fordingbridge flood defence scheme, carried out for the Environment Agency by Team Van Oord - a partnership between Van Oord, May Gurney and Mackley - has received a Silver Considerate Constructors Award.
The £6.5m scheme - a system of flood defences on the River Avon, Ashford Water and Allen Brook to protect 450 homes - was also a winner in the 2006 Environment Agency Project Excellence Awards.
Considerate Constructors Site Monitor, Peter Crane Bsc CEng MICE, said: "Environmentally, the site was excellent. The lengths to which the contractor went in this very sensitive area were extraordinary.
"Whilst certain criteria were laid down by the client, these criteria were taken on board by the contractor, were amplified and all the necessary training was given to employees so that certain species of flora and fauna could be instantly recognised and brought into the 'protection' equation."
The project is assessed on the Considerate Constructors website as follows:
"Both the contractor and the client set about causing as little disruption as possible to the residents of the village and ... both deserve equal credit for this excellent site.
"The contractor made considerable efforts to establish the needs of residents ... in an effort to coordinate tasks with their needs. Newsletters were sent to all affected parties at regular intervals to update them on the works ahead."
The Fordingbridge award was presented in London on 28 March by Archie Robertson, Chief Executive, Highways Agency to Stephen Ashman, Contracts Manager, May Gurney (see pic above).
 The second project to receive recognition is the A11 improvement scheme at Attleborough in Norfolk, which was carried out by May Gurney for the Highways Agency. A Considerate Constructors' Certificate of Compliance was presented to Ewan Barr, Project Manager, on 14 March.
The £30m ECI scheme comprised a new 3.3 mile two-lane dual carriageway, improvements to four junctions, and a new bridge across the A11 for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders. The new road opened in February 2007.
