MD heads industry association

Graham Cartledge, Managing Director of May Gurney's street lighting business Cartledge, has recently become Chairman of the Association of Street Lighting Electrical Contractors (ASLEC). Graham assumed the Chairmanship at ASLEC's AGM on 1 November.

ASLEC represents the interests of companies operating in the highway electrical contracting industry. There are more than 80 members based all over the UK, whose activities range from street lighting and signs to highway communications and close circuit television systems. The Association also runs a 'Competency' scheme, and more than 2,400 individuals carry a Competency Card.

Graham Cartledge has served on the ASLEC council for seven years, and was previously Chairman in 2002. He said: "I have agreed to stand as Chairman for a second time because the association will be going through lots of major changes this year.

"ASLEC will be converting from an unincorporated organisation to a Company Limited by Guarantee. This is a major change and will need a great deal of commitment by all concerned.

"My aim is to support the new Chief Executive and promote ASLEC and the Competency Scheme to all local authorities, so that they will specify the scheme in their new contracts."
