Gritters ready and waiting
May Gurney's highways maintenance team is geared up to keep traffic moving in Essex this winter.

With predictions of a colder winter than last year, 35 gritting lorries and 60+ personnel will be on round-the-clock standby to grit the roads within two hours. All gritters are fitted with Global Positioning Technology to track vehicle movements, and other sophisticated technology capable of confirming where and when salting has taken place

Councillor Norman Hume, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: "I am positive that Essex County Council is prepared for anything this winter can throw at us. Our gritters use the very latest satellite guidance systems and our drivers are trained to industry standards. We will work around the clock to keep Essex's road network running freely."
