Working together with West Sussex

Co-location helped West Sussex County Council and May Gurney - working together as the West Sussex Highways alliance - to piggyback maintenance works onto a major project, thereby reducing inconvenience for local people and the travelling public.

As a result of the West Sussex Highways alliance, which was launched on 3 July, the way in which 5,000 miles of roads and pavements in West Sussex are improved and maintained has undergone a major change. The aim is to give the public an even better service in the way that highway works are co-ordinated, planned and carried out.

The communication benefits derived from co-location enabled a reconstruction/recycling scheme to be carried out at the same time as major works on the A283 Steyning Bypass - avoiding an additional major closure at a later date.

In spite of wet weather, the works on the carriageway were completed on time and the road closure was removed early.
