Partnership participates in road safety week

The East Sussex Highways partnership participated in a week of road safety events staged around the local town of Uckfield during June.

The partnership laid on a series of activities for school children on 19 June, including a re-creation of a road works site. "The idea was to educate children about the dangers of an active construction site and show them what is involved in protecting the public," explained Mike Francis, Assistant Area Manager for the East Area.

Wearing high-vis jackets, the children acted as traffic through the site, which was controlled by traffic lights, stop and go signs and a series of barriers.

Uckfield town councillor Jim Molesworthy-Edwards, who praised the partnership's involvement, hopes the event can become a regular feature. "Local organisations such as East Sussex Highways are pivotal in the success of Uckfield Road Safety week - it reinforces the message that road safety is a fundamental part of everyday life"
