Transport boss sees alliance in action

Colin McKenna, West Sussex County Council's Head of Highways & Transportation, spent a day 'out and about' last month seeing the West Sussex Highways alliance in action.

"Colin was keen to meet people working at all levels for West Sussex Highways," explains Philip Fouche, Operations Manager. "We took him to visit a resurfacing scheme in Fernhurst and carriageway patching works that were being carried out in the Chichester area.

"He was able to see how we manage our supply chain partners - in this case Aggregate Industries - and experience first hand the kind of traffic management issues we encounter on a daily basis when delivering schemes and carrying out maintenance."

As a result of the West Sussex Highways alliance, which was launched in July 2006, the way in which 5,000 miles of roads and pavements in West Sussex are improved and maintained has undergone a major change. The alliance was formed to give the public an even better service in the way that highway works are coordinated, planned and carried out.
