Roads to recovery

Highways in Essex have been given the 'green light'.

A survey by MORI shows that the county now tops the league table for public satisfaction for highways services and road conditions - whereas just three years ago it was towards the bottom.

The survey is good news for Essex County Council and May Gurney - the company maintains highways in the south and west Essex areas under a five-year framework.

"These results are a reflection of the hard work put in by the Essex team"

Ken Kintrea, May Gurney

In the survey, 54% of residents said they are 'satisfied or very satisfied' with the maintenance of the county's highways. The highest satisfaction ratings were received for the maintenance of traffic lights, streetlights, road signs, road marking, pavements in town centres and the condition of main roads.

Ken Kintrea, May Gurney's Essex Highways General Manager, said: "These survey results are a reflection of the hard work put in by the Essex team, and are very encouraging - well done to all involved. We will continue to work to improve resident satisfaction still further."
