Highway 'leaders' award five-year contract
Following its success in neighbouring East Sussex, May Gurney has been
awarded a five-year contract to deliver highway maintenance services for
West Sussex County Council.
The contract takes effect on 1 July and covers services ranging from
patching and minor improvement schemes to winter gritting across 4,000 kms
of roads and footways. It is worth between £20 and £25 million, with a
possible extension to 10 years.
Services will be delivered by the 'West Sussex Highways Alliance', which
will comprise the County Council, May Gurney, and the County Council's
Highways Consultants, Owen Williams.
May Gurney will take over from Minerva Accord, which has held the contract
since 1999.
Lieutenant Colonel Tex Pemberton, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member
for Highways and Transport, said: "We are looking forward to a close working
relationship that will bring about innovative solutions to maintaining our
roads, and making them safer. We will also be looking to ensure the contract
delivers value for money for our council taxpayers.
"A change of contractor is always a difficult decision, and I would like to
pay tribute to the way that Minerva Accord has delivered a wide range of
services in West Sussex, and wish the company well."
May Gurney's CEO, David Sterry, said: "Our approach is to work with
customers who share our values. We have recognised West Sussex as leaders in
the field of highway maintenance with a collaborative approach to working, a
strong desire to develop long-term relationships, a belief in the importance
of local suppliers, and a focus on providing excellent customer care.
"We are looking forward to working with the County Council, and their supply
chain to achieve outstanding service." |
