Northamptonshire highways contract goes live

The Northamptonshire County Council highway services contract, which we were awarded in January, went live on Saturday 29 March.

The contract was awarded to the integrated highways services provider MGWSP, a 50:50 joint venture between May Gurney and WSP. Some 200 former employees of Atkins - the company that previously held the contract - have transferred across to MGWSP.

" MGWSP will play a key role in the development of highways programmes and projects "

Bob Seery, Northamptonshire CC

Under the long-term contract, which includes the provision of corporate services, consultancy and operational delivery, we are responsible for maintaining more than 4,000 kms of roads across Northamptonshire. The contract has an approximate value of £320m over eight years, with a potential four-year extension.

MGWSP combines the strengths of May Gurney and WSP, the design, engineering and management consultancy, to deliver integrated local government services across the United Kingdom.

At the time of the award, Councillor Bob Seery, Northamptonshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Roads and Transport, said: "MGWSP will play a key role in the development of highways programmes and projects. The contract will look to develop and bring forward innovations in highways management using all the latest technology to secure the best value for money."

" We're totally focused on delivering a first class service to people living and travelling in the county"

Alan Dinsdale, May Gurney

Alan Dinsdale, MGWSP Operations Director, said: "This is a significant development for MGWSP and the team is looking forward to a long and successful partnership with Northamptonshire County Council.

"We're delighted with the progress we've made since the contract was awarded and thrilled to have completed the mobilisation phase and gone live. There will doubtless be some challenges ahead but we are totally focused on delivering a first class service to the council and people living and travelling in the county."
