May Gurney sells asphalt and aggregate operations

May Gurney has announced that Ennstone plc has completed the purchase of the Ayton Products' asphalt and aggregate operations at Longwater and Shropham, for a total cash consideration of £8.45 million.

David Sterry, CEO said: "This is an excellent deal. It ensures that the asphalt and aggregate business that May Gurney has developed over a number of years will have a long-term future as part of an organisation that is focussed on materials and products.

"Ennstone is a specialist in these areas and can offer excellent career development opportunities for the 23 people employed there."

The asphalt operation at Longwater has the benefit of a new purpose-built Ammann manufacturing plant with a high production capacity, enabling Ennstone to open new routes to market for its aggregates in East Anglia.

Vaughan McLeod, Chairman at Ennstone plc, said: "This is another example of developing our strategy of route to market for our primary value materials through value added products. We have acquired a top class facility with a good track record that will use our aggregates."

It's business as usual for Ayton Products' other activities at Wymondham (bitumen production, specialist surfacing products) and Lynford Quarry, which are not affected by this deal.
