Long-term partnership keeps Essex moving

A new five-year highways maintenance contract, potentially worth around £100m, has strengthened May Gurney's long-term partnership with Essex County Council.

The new contract will come into effect on 1 April - when the current contract expires - and will cover the western and southern areas of the county. The contract will run for five years, with a facility for extensions, and covers highway maintenance works up to £500,000.

Peter Batts, Managing Director of May Gurney Highway Services, said that the company is 'extremely pleased that Essex County Council has given us the opportunity to continue our partnership with them'.

The contract value is estimated at £20m per annum and will deliver all aspects of both planned and reactive highway maintenance - including surfacing, carriageway and footway works, and emergency and winter maintenance services.

Councillor Rodney Bass, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation at Essex County Council, said: "Essex County Council is delighted to maintain the relationship with May Gurney. We look forward to working with all our contractors to enhance the standard of the highways network across Essex and to keep the county moving."
