Partnering the Supply Chain
160 delegates left the Heritage Motor Museum at the end of the 2006 Supply Chain Conference in no doubt about the importance May Gurney places on its relationships with suppliers.
"This year's conference was all about demonstrating the value to be gained by working more closely with our supply chain," says Amanda Black, Supply Chain Manager (pictured). "We continue to strive for a truly integrated supply chain - it is a key part of how we do business."
One of the guest speakers, Don Ward, Chief Operating Officer, Constructing Excellence, outlined many compelling examples of the benefits of working in partnership with the supply chain. 'More for less for more' was his theme - more output, for less money, for more value.
The event was very well received by those suppliers who attended.

Neil Marsden, from Geofabrics, described it as 'a very worthwhile day that reminds all parties of the value in working together, and encourages us all to do even better together in the future'.
Julian Zaremba, whose company Bellstan has supplied West Sussex County Council for more than 27 years, spoke glowingly of the 'step forward' since becoming involved with May Gurney as part of West Sussex Highways. "There have been changes and we have benefited," he said. "Being able to discuss and influence decisions, early sub contractor involvement in the planning of a job, meeting other members of the supply chain, using a partnering approach, looking at the job as a whole and not from our own perspective - this is a great step forward as far as Bellstan are concerned."
And Norfolk County Council's Tony Palmer summed things up, saying: "Excellent conference - good to see May Gurney really means supply chain integration.
David Sterry, May Gurney Chief Executive, was naturally delighted: "The response I received from suppliers and customers was very positive and therefore the conference achieved its key aim, which was to engage people from across the industry," he said.

"The challenge for all of us is to bring this into everyday working practices so that all stakeholders can benefit. Teamwork is essential - if you work at something hard enough you can achieve the desired outcome."
