£70k target for Coast Along
May Gurney has teamed up with international charity WaterAid to raise cash to enable some of the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.
May Gurney is the main sponsor of the Coast Along event on 15 September, which will raise funds for Water Aid. WaterAid's fundraising goal is £70,000 and May Gurney has put £5,000 in the pot to kick off a company-wide effort to raise more funds.
WaterAid has divided the South West Coastal Path into 70 sections between five and 15 miles in length, graded according to how easy or strenuous the walk is. There's something for everyone, including stretches for wheelchairs and baby buggies. Walkers can register as part of a team, with family and friends, or individually - but need to raise at least £50 to take part.
May Gurney chose WaterAid 2007 Coast Along because it fits with the company's commitment to work with one of its biggest customers, South West Water, to maintain safe water supplies in the South West region.
Ian Findlater, Group Business Development Director at May Gurney, said: "We are delighted to be the principal sponsor of the Coast Along event this
year. WaterAid has ambitious goals to make a difference across the globe.
"I know the event will be great fun and I am looking forward to the day.
More importantly I hope that by participating, the commitment our teams show will result in significant fund-raising and ultimately have an impact on those who need help the most."
